Managing Forest for Dynamism

Ours is a strange and uncertain era. In today's real-estate market, land is worth little more than scenery. Our singular concern with the forest is its capacity to spread fire to our sprawling residential developments. This situation promotes neglect of the natural processes our predecessors relied on. For now, economics dictates the subdivision of view-lots and the abandonment of forestry and rangeland management, but this could quickly change. We may need the land to become functional and life-sustaining again. We need land management strategies that plant seeds of resilience and practicality in this moment of frivolity.
